So, I just got the opportunity to have an internship in the career services center at my school. I understand thats its completely non dental related but it would give me an opportunity to gain more interpersonal skills, office skills, skills to build better resumes, and I could also help people into figuring out what their future would be. It would be nonpaid and at the end I get a recommendation letter by a guy who I also went on a community service trip with and I'm sure if I do this that its another BA recommendation letter to send to dental schools. I'm not sure how the dental schools will feel about it thought since its not exactly related and I could have been using my time doing other science related things. Then again...your life cannot possibly be all about science? thats not a well rounded person at all. so what do you think?

I think your reasoning behind taking this position is great. No1 says everything u do has to revolve directly around dentistry/science ONLY. Whatever makes u a greater person/applicant works 🙂

If you think it will help you overall, I would do it, sucks its non-paid but at least you would get a solid letter of rec. I really dont think schools will not take it into consideration because it wasn't science oriented.

Do you have a few hundred hours of volunteering (would this "internship" be classified as volunteering, no academic credit?), and several (30+) hours of shadowing? If not, focus on the needed first.

The internship has no academic credit and I've done around 150hrs of dental shadowing with 3 different dentist and I've done some volunteering(alternative spring break) but I can admit that I can do more and I will plan to do more. I think I will take the internship. Thanks for your input!
