Hey guys. I'm a M-1 looking for some ophthalmology research. I have an opportunity to do research for a 'OD,PhD' that does research in Macular Degeneration. He publishes in optometry journals. Do you guys think that this would count as Ophthalmology related research? He promised me a publication at the end of the summer. Should a go for it or search for a MD?

I think working with an ophthalmologist would allow you to make contacts that would be more helpful when applying for residency.

I agree with the above post- research with ophthalmologists will allow you to work with people who can write you letters and help in other ways besides obtaining publications. Publication is probably not as important as net working in the field.
