I'll try to keep it short. I am a post-bacc non traditional student with bachelor and master degrees in business. So far I've taken 10 science prereqs, and I have earned 8 A's and 2 B's. I'm currently registered in Orgo Chem 1 + the lab and Cell and Molec + the lab. I have an A in Orgo 1, but I am failing Cell and Molec. I really don't know what the issue is...I just can't seem to pass the tests. Class average was a D on both the tests.

I have 6 W's on my transcript all from undergrad from about 7-8 years ago. My current overall GPA is 3.46, not including my graduate GPA which was a 3.72. Science GPA is 3.48. The Cell and Molec class is 4 credits (includes the lab) so it would bring down my GPA a lot if I got a bad grade.

My question is do you guys think I should drop the class (I think there is another teacher teaching it next semester), or take a chance and try to pass with at least a C?

Drop date is early next week. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I think if you calculate your grade and there is no way to salvage it by the end of the year, I would drop as long as it doesn't give you a W.
If you tried your best and think you'll end up with the same grade, then maybe it is just better to try and get it over with.
If C- or lower is likely, you have to drop the course. Since AADSAS does not replace grades.

Good luck!

Thank you for your response. At this point, I will get a W. Would you still suggest dropping if I am not expecting a good grade?

Like Soleus said - it depends on what grade you think you are ogoing to get. If you don't have a lot of W's I'd drop it if I thought I was going to get a C+ or lower

Yeah I actually have 6 W's, but all from about 7-8 years ago. That's why I was concerned about another W, but I guess it's better than screwing up my GPA

Bump. I appreciate any suggestions!

In any case, a W is better than an F. But are you sure you are failing? How could the class average be a D on these tests? That sounds like bad teaching or unethical grading since you have a good track record with courses that are supposed to be more difficult.

Yeah I'm definitely failing. I got an F on the 1st 2 tests. I'd have to average a C on the last 2 tests, the cumulative final, and the lab grade (which is another beast in itself) just to barely pull out a C in the class. The material isn't getting easier so the odds are not good especially with the final covering everything. This is also already assuming one of the failed tests being dropped. So I can't drop another.

I really don't know why the average is so low. It's horrible. It sucks because I'm at a loss...I've never had this much trouble in a class. I've never even been close to failing a class.

Which classes are supposed to be more difficult? I've made an A in Microbiology..not sure if that one is generally more difficult or not. And I currently have an A in Orgo 1. I actually put Orgo 2 in my original post by accident, but I haven't taken Orgo 2 yet. Are those classes supposed to be more difficult than Cell and Molec?

To confirm - you have more weight placed on prereq classes - so I would do my best to try and up your grade. That being said, if you have to drop, you have to drop. Not much you can do other than learn what mistakes NOT to make next time

You know I just realized that Cell and Molec is not an actual prereq. Biochemistry is, but Cell and Molec is a prereq to Biochemistry...at least at my school it is. Not that it makes the situation much better though...
