whats up

i'm taking biochem, physics, cell bio, plant pathol., and micro ec right now

i think biochem is gonna be the hardest out of all 5 espcecially from what I've heard, but I think i can pull off the other 4 so would it hurt me if:

1. i dropped biochem (becuase do I really need it for dent school)
2. would 14 credits be a bad courseload instead of 17?

let me know what you guys think

Biochemistry is required by some dental schools already. I think more and more of them are making it a prerequisite now. If you can still drop the class without a W then won't look bad, but you will probably need to take it to get in.

Drop Plant Pathology, I think I might be right but you won't be working on too many plants in Dental school. Stick with Biochem it won't let you down. I was challenged both semesters of Biochem but I ended rocking the course. It was difficult but really interesting, I think that is why I did well. Biochem is a requirement for a lot of schools. Most schools have classes they recommend taking before matriculating, I bet Biochem is on every list along with cell, and micro.

🙂

oh micro economics, not micro biology......... My bad

I wish I took a business class or two......... Probaly help out after D-School........Oh Well

but 14 credits wont look bad?? 4 classes with 2 labs.. idk if that is a suitable course load for D schools when they look at my transcript .. u think?

One semester with 14 credits is totally fine - I had a semester with 12 credits (as opposed to my usual 17 or 18 credit load) and my app cycle is gonig pretty well... so far anyways - still waiting on a few schools. :luck:

i took a semester of 14 credits as i studied for the DATs..didn't hurt a bit..good luck👍

BioChem is on part one of the NBDE. So drop it if you wish. I wouldn't. 🙂

i had one of 13 i think last spring.. will it matter to have a couple semesters with a lower number? i'm usually around 16-17 .. but i just want the best grades possible its a toss up i still have until march to drop it so i'm just gonna try and bang it out i think

first, relax....a couple semesters with less than 15 credits hours will not harm your application. I had many semesters with aorund 12 credit hours (b/c i was employed 30-40 hrs/week).

second, which biochem course is it? intro to biochem or the metabolism counterpart? the intro to biochem course is really not that bad....it's all about water, pH, acids/bases, proteins, glycolysis/tca, etc. the metabolism course, on the other hand, is a bitch.

like another poster said, i would drop the plant class if possible. d-school likes to see biochem on your transcript. many of the schools i applied to require it.

good luck,
jb!🙂

i have to take an upper level botany course though for my B.S. in bio

so i'm thinking that i might drop this so i can try and slam those 4 classes and then take it next yaer or something.. dental schools dont know what classes you dropped right? as long as its before drop period

I personally learned a lot in Biochem and correct me if i'm wrong, but I think there's quite a bit of material on the DAT related to biochem. There are a few schools that require biochem now so make sure the schools you want to apply to don't require it if you do plan to drop.

They will know if you get a W. That shows. I dropped Biochem 2 my sophmore year and took it in my junior b/c it was too hard to take with everything else I was doing like orgo, etc. I took i the following year. If you have another year, then you can drop whatever you want and take it next year if your load will be lighter then. If you can handle biochem, then drop something else. If you're not all that confident this semester, then drop the biochem and take it next year. Good luck!

I guarantee you will be using Biochem alot more than a stupid class on plants. Man I hated those requirements. Biochem is a sweet class that really integrates Bio with Chem. It is very interesting and I must say that Biochem was one of my favorites in undergrad.

I took around 15 but sometimes 13 credits a semester while in undergrad. I think you may want to support that though by working, doing research, or in my case I played football which took up alot of my time so the schools were able to look over my lower credit hours a semester. I also dropped a ceramics class because I was sick of going in every weekend to work on projects and I still got accepted to a few schools. Just do what works for you but make sure that at some point before dental school you take Biochem. It is very informative.

Dude, I second the notion.
