In order to be allowed to continue research over the summer and to justify living costs, my parents said I had to take physics 2. During this time they have also shut me out of their lives, making it impossible to go home, see my dogs and retrieve possessions, or contact them at all. I have not coped well with this (struggling with other issues too) and have been doing very poorly in the class. I don't think I can get a B at this point, and I'm not even sure about a C.
The class itself has 3 tests excluding the final, one of which can be dropped. I got a D on the first test (which may have been due to overly harsh grading according to my TA, but that's neither here nor there) and I was hoping to pick it up for the upcoming one this week, but at this point I'm not so sure.
Should I withdraw from the class and attempt to take it at some later time?

It sound like you are living a little bit of your future PS. I'm not sure about physics specifically, my gut says don't risk getting a W on a transcript, seems easier to justify a C-. But I would highly suggest you find a mentor and a strong coping mechanism, if you don't already have them.

Is this even justifiable, or would adcoms just roll their eyes? Also thank you for the advice.

I have a feeling they are going to be concerned that you are in this position in the first place. adcoms don't just look at one detail in a vacuum. They look at the entire deal and "judge" you based on performance and character over time. Which is why you need to talk to someone who knows all the details you've excluded. Ultimately I don't think a single C or D or F or W kept anyone out of med school. They let people in who've committed crimes... One moment matters less than a pattern of behavior the precedes or follows it.

A>B>W>C
Don't get too many W's. Sounds like there is more issues going on that has been stated.
Why would parents want you to take physics but then shut you out? Seems like you did something they didn't like but lets not go there.

I got in an argument with my mom. Nothing that hasn't happened before.

Ok, so I hope things end up working out with your family.
I stick with the A>B>W>C... unless you have too many W's then we have an entirely different issue.

Situations have changed and made it difficult or impossible for you to devote yourself to your coursework. This is exactly why Ws exist
