Hi all,
I have a unique circumstance- I've taken 2 incompletes my last semester due to serious medical circumstances.
Out of my 4 classes:

Computer Science
Physics 1
Sociology
chem

I took the latter 2 (sociology and chem) as medically excused incompletes. I received A's for physics and computer science. I've recovered gracefully, and I just finished chem, but the professor will be grading it during the last week of August (I'm expecting a grade of B or B+), and hopefully a better grade for my sociology class (I'll finish the assignments by the end of August as I want to focus on the DAT now).

I'll be taking the DAT mid August. AADSAS has received my transcript with the two incompletes on them. My question is should I e-submit my application now (with the 2 incompletes on them), or should I wait until I receive grades for my two classes and then submit it? If I am correct it will delay the completion of my application until maybe mid to late September.

I'm also concerned because I have a pretty low GPA (3.15). It is a very nice upward trend though.

I'm also aware that we can do the academic update in November (not any earlier), and I'll be taking 2 more science classes this fall to bring up my GPA and to fullfill requirements for some schools.

I appreciate all the advice!

Best,
Nina

Good job pulling a decent term, even with the medical issues. I say that you should submit sooner than later if you want to apply this year. Good job on the upward trend, but you are right to say that 3.15 is a bit low. At this point in your education, I don't think it is realistic to expect your GPA to improve more than .2 or so, even if you have a stellar term. If you want to apply, I say submit now.

If you are taking your DAT mid Aug. A majority of Dental Schools will likely not review your application until September. This is pretty late in the cycle, and with a less then stellar GPA. If I were you, I would continue to work hard and grow my application for the next cycle. Do not just take a break during this cycle, even if you decide to apply. Continue to shadow and volunteer and get good grades! Good luck!

What if he took his DAT at the end of this week and submit his application like August 5th? Would that still be bad?

Just called multiple schools, they said that I should go ahead and submit now and just send them an update/explanation of the incompletes and my unofficial transcript along... as well as an unofficial DAT score to speed up the process. I will have to eventually send in an official transcript, which can be done when AADSAS opens up the academic update in November/December. I'll do that along with my fall semester grades too.

I don't like wasting time so I want to apply this cycle. If I don't get in, then I'll be one of the first ones to apply next summer.

That should be fine. If it gets to late August, then we're starting to push it.

Thanks! I was wondering for myself.
