Well I'm a graduate of University of Toronto, Canadian, with a 3.4 cGPA (best two years freshman 3.9, sophmore 3.5) and a 31R (VR 8, PS 12, BS 11). The problem here I'm thinking is that there might be issues with EC's, as I don't have much from having to study all the time. Should I even bother applying? I have no hopes in Canada, and likely little hope in the US as well...

I'm just...kinda depressed about all of this lack of hope...

There's always a shot. No one really knows what they look for. There's plenty of time to do some ECs until the next application cycle so get on it.

Thanks for the reply. I've got some questions here:

1. When does the application process begin for Ireland in general, for the 2009 application cycle? I've been looking all over for it, and I don't really see anything with regards to that kind of stuff...

2. Strictly in terms of stats, do I have a shot at it? I mean like have there been people with lower stats that I have that was admitted?

3. I haven't done much research on the UK myself, do you know about how the schools in the UK work?

Again, thanks for the reply.

I don't know about the UK but I got into UCC 5 years ago on a 3.56 (best years freshman 4.0, 3rd year 3.7) and a 28R (8PS, 9 BS, 11 VR) and the worst BA transcript they had probably ever seen (GPA on that was probably about 1.6-long story).
For Ireland the 1st application deadline is usually November 15th. They usually accept later applications, but I think your best bet is to apply early. Do work on the EC's thoguh-they can only help. Cheers,
M

Thanks for the reply, so I'm guessing that there are matricated students with those stats before, which I think is a bit of a relief.

Well right now I'm working a research job that might get me published by the end of the summer as a co-author. As well I'm getting back into a lot of my EC's that I've neglected over the years of depressing university (namely piano and swimming). I'm hoping this would beef up my EC's a bit more...
