Case is a fine school, but I was given an interview for the alternate list around the end of March. I'm not sure if this information is accurate, but I was told that even if you are accepted onto the alternate list you have to place a deposit (it doesnt make any sense to me). Does anyone know if Case has even taken people off the waitlist historically?

didnt you(or someone) just post this very same thread a few weeks ago?? the alternate list is refundable i hear. and i heard they didn't take anyone last year off the alt list... i could be wrong

It's true last year they didn't accept anyone off of the alternate list, in fact they ended up with 5 too many. Which was a pain in the ass to deal with. Therefore, they are making sure that they don't make the same mistake again this year. So they figure they will have to take some people off of the alternate list. But it can vary widely. Brian Sherman admissions counselor said, that it has ranged anywhere from 5-25 people taken from the list. So it can't hurt to interview.

I am a first year case dental student. Seriously, dont bother, they will not take anyone off the alternate list.

i'd do the interview. just for experience, if not anything else. you make sure the adcoms remember you by leaving a strong impression, so that if you decide to apply there again next year, you get a bit of advantage there.

besides, nobody knows whether or not people will be taken off the waitlist. they may or may not. nobody knows for sure. if you want to go to dental school badly, don't you wanna give yourself the most chance as possible? even if it means investing couple hundred dollars for the interview, i think it's worth your future.

my 2 cents.

how will you know if you don't try?

I though I heard Case will defer its alternates to the next year if they are not picked up. Is this true?

no you have to re-apply again.

i did go to the alt list interview and here are the facts that david dalsky told me:
-they usually take 5-12 off the alt list...none last year though
-the deposit is only cashed if you are pulled off the list and decide to attend
-if you are not taken off the alt list, then the admissions committee considers those who are on the list...usually about 35 on the alt list, and they decide who from that list they would offer admission to...somewhere around 13 people are usu offered a spot for the following class..and then no additional interview

i would say go just for the experience and possible acceptance this year or next...

i am still keeping my fingers crossed 🙂

This seems pretty simple to me. If you do not go to the interview then you chances of getting in are 0. If you go to the interview your chances of getting in are greater than 0. If you have gotten into another school that you prefer to Case then don’t go. If you have gotten into another school but would prefer Case then go. If you haven’t gotten into any schools then go.
