Should I even bother?

Hi All,

I'll keep this as brief as I can:

I graduated class of 2012 from a state university with ~3.70 GPA Economics Major.

I had 2 C's and 1 W. One C was in Calculus 3. One C in Risk management course, and a W in a 1 credit hour Unix programming course.

Fast forward to 2015, I thought I wanted a second degree in computer science. I signed up for courses, then dropped most of them. Forgot to drop that same 1 credit hour Unix programming course i took earlier and now I have an F on my transcript.

Fast forward Summer 2016, I wanted to be an engineer so i signed up for chemistry + lab and physics+lab at a community college, but ended up dropping them and accepting 4 additional W's because I had acquired a job in Data analysis( which was close enough to engineering for me). The courses were at a community college.

I have since then quit my job, and am determined to take the very, very long winded path to medical school. I am particularly interested in Psychiatry.

I can start taking pre-med classes in the spring, but should I even bother with the 2 Cs, and total of 5 W's on my transcript?

I figure that by the time I finish 2 years worth of pre reqs, they wont matter too much.

thoughts and advice?

side note: i'm currently taking a course in web design and philosophy at a university out of self interest and plan to Ace them.

Are you asking "shall I do this because historically I've been a poor science student?"

OR

"I have two C's and some W's. Will med schools screen me out?"

If the latter, the answer is no. Sustained academic excellence from now on does wonders to demonstrate that the you of now is not the you of then. Rising GPA trends are always looked highly upon.

Thanks, Goro!

That definitely put me more at ease. I am confident in my abilities to obtain strong grades in the string of pre req science courses I am about to take. I am decently strong academic student.

I am submitting an application to volunteer at a local hospital in the mean time, too.

One final question:
Should I take a upper division math course to make up for the C in Calc 3? I got a B+ in Calc 1, and an A in Calc 2. Thanks!
