Should I focus of private schools or public schools for college

It ultimately depends on what you're looking for. Private institutions are not necessarily superior to public ones. Honestly, if you want to apply, just apply and see what you want to do from there. Privates might be harder, which can tank your GPA for med school applications, but also bring a bit of prestige to your file. It's a weighing of odds. Given that you have a few medically-related service hours, why not consider a BS/MD program? I know that USF and UF have some.

With your stats and career aspirations, I would go for the best public school in Florida. Good school, no debt, solid chance at med school.

Go to UF if you get in. It's Miami caliber but dirt cheap.

You're unlikely to get into Emory and Miami is probably not worth the $$.

Look into different places and see where you think you would enjoy the next 4 years. Go there, money willing.

Do not write off any institution before being accepted and hearing their financial aid offers. Many expensive private institutions can be very generous with aid and scholarships to qualified applicants such as yourself and before you know it end up being less expensive than you could have ever thought.

I personally went to the least expensive 4 year university in my state. I guarantee you've never heard of it. Got in to med school. Along with many of my classmates.
