Hi All,
An opportunity kind of landed in my lap to work as a grader with a teacher I really love. This professor also conducts quite a bit of research and I think becoming a grader may be a good way to open up some research opportunities. The problem is that I haven't been at my current job for a year yet, and I really wanted to stay here for a year before leaving as it's good clinical experience (I work as a CNA in a dementia care facility). What do you guys think will appear better on my med school applications? Should I stick it out at my current job for a little while longer (it'll be a year in two months), or take the position as a grader at the university? I'm worried about appearing flighty or non-committed to my work by leaving after less than a year.

Personally I wouldn't worry about the not lasting a year part, 10 months is still a great amount of time to be in direct patient care. However, I think the CNA position is better experience for medical school than a potential research position. Especially since you are working with a non desirable demographic (elderly). This will show true altruism to med schools.

I guess it all depends on what kind of med school you want to go to/if you care about research. Some people never do a lick of research and are accepted regardless.
