I'm going to be attending college next year and I wanted to ask: Should I get a new laptop? I currently have a 13 inch Macbook Pro which doesn't have Retina Display I think(I honestly don't care) which I've used for three years. I was wondering if I should buy a Macbook Air which is about 2 pounds compared to the 3.5 pounds my current macbook is. Also it's the start of a new chapter in my life so the idea of a new laptop sounds cool. However, my macbook pro works perfectly fine. This is honestly a stupid question but I just wanted any of your insight because I can't make a decision.

how long have you had the pro for? if it's working fine it's probably not worth.

I bought a netbook back in November for college, but it broke last week. :bang:

How old is the MacBook? If its relatively new and working fine, you should be fine.

It's 3 years old and it's still working fine however, my parents are very insistent on me buying a new macbook since they think I need a backup laptop. I'm thinking of something thinner like the new macbook or the macbook air. The new macbook is 2 pounds and the macbook air is 3 however the macbook air is much more powerful. This decision is really eating me up because I don't want to waste my parent's money on a laptop that will be a mistake sigh.

No one really needs a backup laptop; what likely ends up happening is that there is a perfectly good laptop that collects dust. Just keep backing up your laptop and when the day comes that you actually need a new one, then you'll just be able to Time Machine your new computer or something. Save that $2000 for something like med/dental/vet/grad/whatever school applications after college.

I've found that my macbook is starting to struggle and its about 4 years old. I'd probably buy a new one if you've got the money for it.

You are going to spend tremendous amounts of time with your laptop in college, and chances are your current one will die on you in the middle of a semester if you try to use it heavily for several more years. I'd say get a new one, and treat yourself to a decent model because like I said, you'll be doing a lot with it.

I got a new laptop I think at the end of my senior year. It lasted until the end of my junior year of college. Motherboard was fried lol. Used a spare laptop my parents for the remainder of undergrad.

I had a Dell PC. It ran really well until about the middle of my junior year. My computer has crashed 3-4 times in undergrad thankfully the tech service on my campus is great and one of them lives in my apartment complex.

Mac or PC?
I'd personally say PC. But I guess it's more of an opinion thing and with the millions of online debates over it there's no need to beat a dead horse. They both do what you'll need for college, but some things are different and you'll just need to figure out what you want for yourself.
