I made three C's freshman year of college (ended the year with a 2.5 GPA), none of which were pre-med classes. I took chem I and II over the summer and made A's in both the lectures and the labs. However, since I really screwed up freshman year in regards to my GPA, should I give up on Medical school? It's all i have ever wanted and I can't imagine myself anywhere else, but i can't change my mistake from freshman year. is it too late to still try to go after my dream?

Nah b. Get tf up, work hard as hell if you really mean what you're saying and don't look back.

Hey there,
I partied away my freshman year to a science gpa around 2.6 and 3.1 cumulative. But, I was able to figure out where I went wrong, changed my study habits, and am matriculating MD this fall.

You’ve got plenty of time to re invent yourself. Your science gpa is still currently 4.0 which is a big bonus. Use the techniques you utilized to get A’s in gen chem to study in your other classes. Figure out more effective ways to study. Take some strategic “easy A” courses. I too feared my Med school dream was over after my freshman year, but you can recover from this. Stay up!

If you really want to get into medical school, don't give up. It's hard, but never give up. That is for the weak. Besides, an upward trend looks good to the admissions committee. If you don't make it MD, go DO. Do whatever you can to make this into a reality if you truly believe this is what you were born to do. Cheers.

You can definitely still do this, OP. The best time to screw up is during freshman year as adcoms realize that it's a year of adjustment. An upward trend in GPA is looked upon very favorably. You've been successful in your science classes this summer, and that bodes well for future science courses, which are the most important. Best wishes to you!

It is a terrible start, but there are people who have done worse in their first year and still have been able to secure acceptances. Look to the future and how you can do better... you'll really need to turn it around. Find out what went wrong wrt study habits and implement new methods that work for you. If something is not working for you, stop doing it and find out how to improve it.

I second this! I personally know someone with a 1.7 freshman GPA, who is now doing fantastic as an M3
