Quickly, here is my situation.

  • philosophy major 2 years left (i.e. 2 summers before application)
  • did basic science courses 6-7 years ago with poor effort
  • doing some of them over again (bio 1+2, chem 2, org chem 1)
It is now June 4, and I am registered in 2 of these basic science courses to improve my grades. Without having done the others in 6-7 years, do you think it is realistic for me to start studying now and to do the MCAT in august?

I kind of shot myself in the foot by not registering in some research work this summer. I guess my plan was to do research AND the MCAT next summer.

Bwah!

You said that you are registered for two of your science courses, does that mean that you are taking them this summer? Because if so, I would think it would not be possible to really study for the mcat enough in this time while taking the classes. If you don't have anything else to do but study for the mcat the next two months then you might be okay...depending on your grasp of the subjects.

If you are already registered for the mcat, why don't you just give it your best shot either way? If you do horribly you can still take it next year.

Don't rush the MCAT. You should definitely finish your science coursework and have a good understanding of the topics before taking the test. If you have a ton of free time, you can probably order some of the study books and brush up on the old topics that you struggled with.
