Should I go to DMU interview?

I just got in a AZCOM, should I still attend DMU interview? I have to leave in an hour

It was never my first top three because of the location. I am a big city kid. Is DMU that great that I should still go to the interview?

To say yes would be one of the biggest understatements in my life. DMU rocked me like a Metallica concert in the late 80s.

go to every interview if you can afford it. if you love azcom and it was your first choice and you dont have the money, then dont go. that bieng said dmu is awsome so if you have the cash. go

DMU is a great place. Wasnt accepted there but I was at azcom. Overall DMU was very beautiful and I enjoyed the landscaping more than azcom. However, both schools are VERY nice. I took my azcom acceptance and cancelled everything else. If I had to choose between the two acceptances, it would be a difficult choice. I say go check it out.

This is how I felt about AZCOM pre-interview. It definitely changed after being there. If you have the funds, I would go anyways. You are only applying once in your life (hopefully), might as well check out your options

I got into both. (DMU last week and AZCOM today)....hands down I thought DMU was better. Cheaper, more established school, global health department (which really interests me), and many more reasons. I have nothing necessarily bad to say about my experience at AZCOM (other than the fact that they didn't really emphasize global health like DMU did), however DMU does tend to blow you away when you go. Definitely check it out.

I moved to DSM from Miami, and lived in DFW before that. Granted neither of those are LA but not small by any stretch. There's enough to do to keep you entertained when you have the time, but it's also not distracting enough to keep you from studying when you need to. For me it was exactly what I needed to do well in school, had I been at TCOM or Nova I'm not sure I'd be getting some of the interview opportunities I'm getting now. Chicago, KC, Omaha are fairly short drives, good for a weekend get away. The facilities are stellar. I'd check it out but I understand your hesitancy, while I was moving to DSM, I was driving a budget truck asking myself 'Why am I moving to Iowa?!?!'. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. DMU is an awesome school, and I actually hear Des Moines is an awesome city with a lot of things to do. If I had the money, I would absolutely check out DMU.

Well, since the plane ticket is pretty much the majority of the costs, and you can't get a refund, you might as well go anyways. If you could get a refund, and you knew for sure (though you can never be 100% sure), then you should probably reconsider the trip. Pot committed already bro!

The whole rotation thing is really not as big of a deal as people seem to think, but I understand how you can get fixated on it.

No one can make the decision for you. It is your education.

That's pretty standard for DO schools since they don't have their own hospital(s) to accommodate all of their students.

i have to agree that once you go somewhere you kinda know how you feel. When i went to lecom-b interview the whole thing just never clicked with me and i felt out of place. WHen i went to the acom interview it was amazing the entire tday, i could tell they were so student focused and this quickly became my top. I also had another interview at at stills soma which is def a great school, but decided to cancel it to save money because I really felt like i would do well at acom.

I didn't say Core rotations. The dean told us that they have affiliated rotation sites in California for 4th year that you have the option to set up. He said you could even stay there for the whole 4th year.

Any school that doesn't have a relationship with oos and especially out-of-region hospitals will put you at a disadvantage.

Never write off the opportunity to try out a school that will save you $50k in tuition.

I guess I have a different viewpoint though. I just graduated from DMU. When I was accepted, I had interviews lined up at both midwesterns. Cancelled them as soon as I got my DMU acceptance. Just because of the tuition difference. AZCOM may be a good school, but no DO school is worth that much more than what I paid to go to DMU, which was enough as it was.

As for 4th year in CA, you can certainly do it, but you will have to set all that stuff up yourself.

You know that disadvantage and impossible are not synonyms, right? OOS matriculate to public schools but are at a disadvantage compared to IS applicants. The lack of understanding of the english language is atrocious on sdn.

When it comes to matching one of the important things is who your advisor is and what school you come from. Certain schools have a relationship with certain programs just like certain businesses have a relationship with certain schools. Good relationship = helps you. No relationship = no additional help.

I would say this is somewhat a stretch. It freaks me out still how quiet it is on weeknight at like 6 PM though I do enjoy having free parking most of the time.

this pretty well describes my response to snow.. because it is harder to drive, some cities dont do a good job clearing roads, sidewalks not cleared for running in the morning, it gets my precious feet wet... i dont know. it scared me more at erie where classes were mandatory

East village, court ave... hell, ingersoll? Agreed the free parking (on weekends and weeknights except for ramps around court ave) is nice though.

Scattered rotation sites all over the country? I wasn't aware that this is the case.
When the dean talked to us about rotations 3rd year he said about 50% of the lottery spots choose to stay in Des Moines itself, another 20% stay in Iowa outside Des Moines, and the other 30% is in Michigan or Ohio. But he stressed that, with the exception of a couple of rotations depending on the area you're in and what rotations are available, the most you'd drive one way in any of those areas is 1 hr. as someone else mentioned, there are few DO schools indeed where this would not be the case, but IMO 1 hr travel for a couple of rotations, or even half, isn't awful. And for those cases where you have to leave your area for a month for a rotation that isn't available nearby, the dean said the school has housing arranged and that you'll only pay rent once in a month.

I loved the school. Yes it was as amazing as ccom but I have to say my heart is with ccom. Also I can't see myself living there. I am a big city kid. I went to undergrad at a small school in a small town and I hated it. If I get alot of scholarship or something I will definitely attend.

Not sure what you exactly mean by this... but Des Moines tends to be a pretty liberal metro area and Iowa was the first to legalize gay marriage.
