Hi

I already submitted my primary application last week. I took mcat twice.
2006 p 10 v 8 b 10
2010 p 14 v 4 b 10
overall gpa 3.82
science gpa 3.7
average EC (research/volunteer/leardership/strong teaching backgroud)

My 2006 score is too old and 2010 verbal score is the killer. So i decided to retake the mcat but i did not indicate on my application.(b/c i just registered for sep 2nd mcat).

I was thinking if i indicate that i am retaking the mcat, they would not review my application until i get my score which is on october and it will just delay my application. (I am positive that i will have a better verbal score than my 2010 verbal score although i am not sure my overall mcat score will improve.) I am kinda afraid that they will reject me for having low verbal score if i do not indicate the i will have new mcat score by early october.

My question is
should i indicate that i am retaking the mcat so they get to see my improved verbal score although it will delay my application?

or

should i not indicate it until i take my mcat or till i get my score and then send the score afterward so my application will be reviewed early?

thanks

My personal advise. If you are going to retake the MCAT indicate that you are going to retake it. To me it is an honor thing. I think it would be dishonest to not indicate you are retaking it, do worse and then not have to submit your scores. That being said you would be taking a chance by delaying your application. Also from my own experience this year I interviewed and was accepted to LECOM-Erie with a 6 on the verbal section (10ps, 6vr, 12bs).

Thats a really an unfortunate distribution. You would kick ass if you got a handle on the verbal.

As far as your question, I think you should report that you are having another mcat score coming out. No offense, but it cant get much worse than a 4, so most likely you will be going up, and keep telling yourself that. Even if you went down a point or two in the other two sections, an increase in the verbal will make a much more balanced and better score.

Also, if you put down that you are having a future score coming out, then schools that might otherwise reject you, will put your application on a "hold" pile. Thats better than being in the rejected pile. Other schools might give you an interview invites with your current scores, and I dont know if they take them back if you score lower- I dont think they do.

thank you all for your advice. I indicated that i am retaking it. I also got an secondaries from touro and UMDNJ. I heard that if you get secondaries from touro--->interview. correct me if i am wrong. Anyway hope it is a good sign =)

That all depends on the Touro school. NY is a secondary/invite, but CA and NV are just secondaries.

Good luck to you on your retake and I think it was a wise decision to list the retake. At the very least, schools will then hold your application without passing judgment until after you get your new scores.
