If I become an optometrist, I would like to eventually own my own practice. Would it be odd to be pre-health and be in a business frat? I would like to meet some new people.

The idea of joining a pre-health frat isn't that appealing to me.

Thoughts or experience on the matter?

I'm actually a member of a business fraternity myself. As you know, healthcare is a business and in fields like optometry and dentistry, good business practices can make or break you. One of my reasons for joining was to get a good understanding of business, from my peers, also the networking at conferences is unparalleled.

Even if you only have a small interest in business, I personally would recommend joining. The wealth of practical business info by itself is worth it.

Thanks for the great response JDHackworth. My reasoning is similar to your's, but you put in much better words. How does the networking work though? I assume its between your fellow brothers and alumni (and other chapters?), but how do you really connect with people?

Well it's really up to the individual to network. Of course you would be close to your brothers, but the whole reason of a fraternity is to bring like-minded people together. Personally, at conferences and events, I don't miss an opportunity to connect with others. I now have good friends in brothers in Tennessee, Atlanta, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and of course throughout my home state of Texas. And those were only regional conferences. There are numerous ways to network at those things, it's all up to the person.

Which fraternity were you looking at, if you don't mind saying? You can pm me if you have more questions.
