Should I just get a second bachelors in bio? Or go to a formal post bacc program

Long story short I'm about to graduate from a top 100 (lol) uni with HOPEFULLY a 2.9 gpa. I'm an African American male and I haven't taken any of the pre-reqs. I was just wondering if it would be better to just get a second bachelors in bio (since I could take more classes to get my gpa up) or go to a formal post bacc program like the one at UT-Dallas? They would both take approx 2 years.

I just feel like getting second bachelors in bio would give me more classes to get my GPA up. But then in the post bacc program it would give me extra time to retake some classes I didn't to do well in which would also boost my GPA.

What do you guys think?

Take all the prerequisites first in the program that's cheapest. Worry about second bachelors later if you choose that will help you.

Well you could find a formal post bacc program that lets you take your pre-reqs, get a committee letter, and might have a linkage with certain programs. Informal post bacc that would have you take classes that lead to a second degree would most certainly be cheaper. So, if you are not worried about money and could use the extra support, do a formal post bacc program.

You might find the second Bio degree helpful with your GPA. Plus you can play it like the second degree was the one that actually mattered to you after you found the light of medicine. IT's a conversation starter about why your gpa went up so much (assuming it could) The top 100 university will mean nothing to the interviewers. They won't have any idea where the schools rank unless it's the alma mater or something silly. A 2.9 is a 2.9.

You top 100 might mean something to the allopathic world, but not the osteopathic.

Since he's an AA student, all he needs is a 3.0 and a 30 MCAT to have 82% shot at Allopathic. He should worry only about doing prerequisites.

Good advice. Ride your race card into medical school. It'll look really good when you are oblivious to the sciences.

Getting into medical school is a game of strategy. I'm not suggesting the OP do bad in his/her science classes. I'm suggesting you do the best to get to your goal ASAP. No point in trying to get a second bachelors or taking extra classes if you don't need them.
