I'm second year undergrad and studying for organic chem next quarter.. I was considering selling my chem textbooks (atkins) and was wondering if the textbook will be helpful for future MCAT studying as reference or med school help. Should I sell it instead?

Speaking strictly as someone who took the MCATs, I felt it wasn't really necessary if you plan on buying some sort of prep book. They usually cover all you need to know in sufficient detail, and are much more focused for the exam.

During my MCAT studying, I never once picked up my old text books.

Yeah, I'm studying for it right now as well. The textbooks go into too much detail. All that you will need to know will be in the prepbooks.

It won't be any use to you in med school.

I think you should keep it. It's true that I wouldn't necessarily use them to study for the MCAT since they're very detailed. However, the examkrackers guide to organic chemistry and general chemistry, while thorough, doesn't really offer too many problems. It's nice to keep these books as a reference in case you want to practice more or if you're still confused by something. Then again you can probably check it out always from reference from the library...if you go there normally as a study habit then yeah sell...

sell it before another edition comes out and makes your 100+ dollar book be worth less than twenty bucks on amazon.
