Long story made very short -> I was going to take animal nutrition at a university in Texas and so I applied there and was admitted. However, I was unable to register into the class I wanted to take after I was accepted. As such I have not taken any classes with this university, nor do I plan to take any classes with them in the future. The Question -> Am still supposed to list this school on my VMCAS application? I was still technically admitted? If I do list them should I explain how I was unable to take the class?

Don't list it. Just because you applied to a school and was accepted doesn't mean you attended (most people are accepted to more than one school)

That's a tough one. I'm leaning towards no, since you were only trying to take one class (I mean how silly would it be to put down summer schools you got admitted to that you didn't attend?)... but it does to say on the vmcas to list every school you were admitted to. email vmcas and ask? they're usually really good about getting back to you. i honestly don't see why this information is necessary, but whatev. i mean, why does it matter where you got accepted to undergrad like years ago? do vet schools get offended if you didn't attend their undergrad??? that's dumb.

Thanks for the advice guys, but I don't think I have been totally clear in my question. I just applied to this university in the past month after I finished my bachelors degree this past May. I was going to take nutrition so that I could apply to Auburn. My problem is that I think it looks bad to list on my VMCAS that I applied and was accepted to a school but then decided not to go. I was considering not listing the school but I don't know if the vet schools might be able to see, in like an educational background check or something, that I had applied. Still kind of confused as to what I should do. Anyone advice offered would be highly appreciated.

I'm with Minnerbelle and Luplodw, I don't think you should include it. I think more eyebrows would be raised with putting a school down with no classes taken than omitting a school that you turned down after being admitted.

Just my opinion.

If you didn't enroll and take a class, I agree with the above posters-- there is no reason to put that on your app. The vet schools are not going to research what schools you were accepted to...they just care about what classes you have taken and what your grades were respectively.

The application says to list all the schools you applied to right? Whats the issue here? Just list it. If anyone ever asked you just tell them the truth, you wanted to take a nutrition course there but couldn't get in. There is really nothing negative about it.

To list all *vet* schools you applied to...not pre req universities where you didn't even go.

I know when I applied 2 years ago it told me to list all colleges I applied to. (not just vet schools, buts its possible its changed for this year)

Either way, just do what it says.

I just looked up the directions:
vmcas.org said:
In this section, you will list information on all post-secondary institutions to which you applied and were admitted to, even the schools you did not attend.

Seems really clear to me....

David is correct. It was the same last cycle. List the school, it won't hurt you, because you can say you applied but didn't attend.

Whoa...weird. I remember filling out the same VMCAS form as you David---for Fall 09, and I remember ours saying list all schools you received credits from (study abroad, summer classes etc), even if you did not get a degree from there, as opposed to all the colleges I applied to and did not even set foot on their campus..and then of course the standard..what vet schools are you applying to....?

How bizarre...why do they need to know where I applied to college? Oh well..OP...do as VMCAS says, but I certainly didn't list all the colleges I applied to, and I still got in 😎

I sure do appreciate all of the help. I am listing them only because the instructions say to. I also put a few sentences in the explanation statement to explain why I didn't register for classes. I have no idea why I need to list this information but I did. I just hope it doesn't make my application look worse, for whatever reason.

Like I said earlier, I understand that the directions say to list any post-secondary schools you were admitted to (and when I applied I took that to mean degree-seeking undergrad and grad schools)... but does that include every summer school you were admitted to, every post-bac program you were admitted to, every study abroad program you were admitted to, etc... as well? so anything that required any sort of application?

I don't think you should include it if it's just for summer school. If you applied there for an undergrad degree and you were offered admission, then you should put it down. You can always email VMCAS to ask about it.

and not to hijack the thread, how do we list schools where we took an online class from? What do we put for the degree earned/major, etc?

I believe I put down schools that I applied to for summer, even if I didn't go there. (there was one, MSU, and I decided not to for financial reasons even though I could have).
