I've recently had two papers uploaded to bioRxiv (one of which I am second author) and are currently in preprint. I'm wondering if I should mention these papers in essays asking about a gap year and if so, should I give the citations of the preprint papers?

I don't think it hurts you to put in the URL's to access them... I normally wait until the PMID or DOI is assigned. It's not a real dealbreaker unless you're going for MD/PhD.

Especially since bioRxiv is PubMed indexed, it is totally fair game to include these with the appropriate PMID in your essay. And that's much shorter than the URL
