Should I mention that I had applied to MD schools before?

I posted this in the reapplicant forum, but I realized people here might be able to answer my question:

I applied to MD schools last cycle and didn't get in. Through this process, I learned about DO schools and decided to apply to them as well this time around.

I am almost done with my personal statement for MD schools, currently getting people to look it over. In my essay for allo, I took what I had last year and added on stuff I've done since then to improve my application.

However, when I was looking over what to do write for my DO PS, I wasn't sure if I should mention I am a reapplicant for medical school since technically I am not a reapplicant to DO schools. OTOH, if in at a later time, it comes out I have applied to MD schools before, and I didn't mention it in my application, I'm afraid it would make me look like I'm hiding something.

Was anyone in the same situation as me? Is it better to tell the DO adcoms upfront I had applied to MD schools last year? Or is it better to just say I am now applying to DO schools and not mention my attempt at applying to med schools the previous year?

Thanks!

It doesn't matter if you are or did mention it in your PS. Usually DO/MD schools will be able to find that information out on their own. If they do, they'll probably ask you during your interview why and which school (MD or DO) are you goin to choose if you get accepted to both.

Your best bet is to just write seperate MD and DO PS.....without mentioning that you are also applying for the other. Just be sure that you have an answer for them when they ask.

They probably wont assume that you are trying to hide anything if you dont mention applying to MD schools in your PS. Although you may want to integrate that into your spiel about why you want to be a DO in secondaries, or during the interviews.
