Hello everyone, I’m 20 credits away from my bachelor's. I have a two and a four year old. I don't work and my husband is incredibly supportive. I can only go to school part time at least until next summer (my 2 yr. old will start pre-school) and then I can do full time. I have a 3.4 GPA and although I haven’t taken the DAT I am committed to getting a decent score (my major is Life Science - pre-med). I’m worried because I’m wondering if dental school is possible after you’ve had children. I’m also concerned about the lack of extra-curricular/ community service activities. I can balance studying and time with my children but I don’t have much room for much more. Is it possible for me to do this?
Also, if I take the DAT next summer (2010), and graduate in spring of 2011, should I apply around June of 2010 or should I wait until 2011 and submit my application early?

def doable...we have more than a few people with kid(s) and are going through school.

shadow some b/w now and application time

apply summer of 2010. no need to wait unless your GPA sux or your DAT is bad.

hope you can make it work!! GL

i know several dental students who have families and children, and they've all said they have been able to make it work because of their supportive spouses. mad props to your husband. 🙂 it's definitely doable as long as you both share this vision of completing dental school.

if you take the DAT next summer, you should apply at that time as well to be admitted to the 2011 cycle.
