I work in a dermatopathology lab full time as a lab aide and would like to apply to DO schools. I didnt have any lab/research experience before this job which is one of the reasons I took it in the first place. I have not shadowed a DO doctor beforehand and was wondering whether I should quit my job in order to shadow a DO full time?

I have been working full time for over a month at this lab

You don't shadow full time. Maybe only a few days. Do u have vacation days to use?

Don't quit your job. That's ridiculous. Shadow 1-3 DO's about 2-3 afternoons each; get a feel for which you felt most connected to, and either ask for a LOR or to spend more time with them and then a LOR

Shadowing is at most a 50 hour commitment and it can be done over the course of months or a year. Do an afternoon a week until May and you'll be grand.

Most physicians expect you to shadow once a week or so not full time- it's a lot of work for them too, find a DO at a hospital that works hours different than your work hours. Also, if you quit your job- one month of research/lab experience is not very good. It actually looks worse in my opinion because you quit after a month. Similar to a resume, would you put down a job you only worked at for a month? (I hope not)
