I have been waiting for 4 months to hear from my top choice school in which I’m IS and above their average statistics. I essentially want to just open up any communication with them. I am considering sending an update letter containing that I have started tutoring orgo for my whole school and did a poster presentation at a conference. Is this insane and I should just wait or is it fine?

Before you do this, e-mail the admissions office and ask if they are receptive to updates "at this point in the cycle". They will either say yes ("You may submit your update letter to the admissions portal...") or no ("Update letters are typically sent later in the cycle..."). I e-mailed a few schools earlier this month with results on both sides of that spectrum. For the ones who accepted letters, it made a difference!

That's not going to move the needle. If it makes you feel better, then go ahead and send it. Also include how they're your top choice and why you fit thier mission.

I would send a hand-written thank you card to your interviewer with updates about your progress since the last time that you communicated with the school. Don't hold back and really sell yourself. Good luck.

Just keep it short and professional—let them know what you’ve been up to and why their program is still your top choice. It’s not pushy; it’s just a way to politely remind them you’re invested. Worst case, it doesn’t change anything, but best case, it keeps you on their radar. So, why not?
