Hi, I know a couple people helped me before but I need to know whether I should apply again or just switch careers?

I did apply to medical school pretty late. I sent in my secondaries in mid November. I had an interview with a medical school in February and found out that I have been waitlisted. I applied to about 8 schools and have not heard back from any (except for 1).

My grades:
Major: Neurobiology
GPA: 3.75 sGPA: 3.75

MCAT: (3 times)
1) 21M 7 P 6 V 8 B
2) 22 M 8 P 6 V 8 B
3) 25 R (Most recent MCAT) 11 P 6 V 8 B

I have tons of volunteer work and shadowed a DO doctor as well.

I don't think I should take the MCAT anymore because I probably won't improve much. I guess.... just give it to me straight if it wasn't meant to be it wasn't meant to be. Kind of sucks because I really wanted to go to medical school too and now I am kind of lost about what to do in life. Anyway if I were to reapply again what else should I improve on? I worked over time and saved up enough money to reapply again (This time earlier). Thanks everyone for helping me.

i had a friend in a similar situation. Keep your head up and keep trying. Perhaps you need a more extensive MCAT prep course. 2 more points in verbal and 1 more point in bio will make a big difference in getting you interviews. Good luck

Yes...reapply earlier. You will have an uphill battle to get in, but it is DOable 🙂 if you apply early.

Where are you waitlisted?

Reapply day one next cycle. Retake the MCAT if you wish, but I don't think you have to. I had the same MCAT--applied late and wait listed, reapplied early and accepted.

Reapply June 1st... prewrite all your secondaries and submit them the day you get them (if you can), and you'll be set. 🙂

If you come up empty handed after the next cycle (which I doubt you will if you apply early and broadly) there are always the DO SMP-like programs out there that have direct links with their respective medical school. I would not recommend taking that route until you gave this next cycle a solid try though. Chances are you won't need that route and you'll snag a seat someplace.

Your GPA is money though! Have you really looked into what's going on with the MCAT? An 11 in PS is pretty darn good. Me thinks you may be capable of more across the board, with the right game plan and attack. Just food for thought...

You'll be ok though. If you want this bad enough, you'll find a way to get to where you need to be. Keep your head up! Have that AACOMAS ready to roll June 1st and gather some secondary essays for the places you are looking to apply to so you can start working on them early if time allows. Good luck.

I tend to agree with Dharma. There are programs affiliated with the different schools to help you get in. For example, LECOM has a post-bacc program for people who have earned at least a 24 on MCAT. Then, if you maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, you are pretty much guaranteed admission in the next cycle. I would not give up if I were you.

I would definitely apply. i had pretty much exact same stats and got in. apply early and to a lot of schools and mention in your secondary that u are interested in OMM and agree with osteopathic principles.

Apply again early. Take some upper-division sciences to show you can handle tough course loads, and hopefully you get an interview. If not, there's always the SMP route.

This is your problem, not your grades or your MCAT.

Timing is ESSENTIAL in applying to med school. This is just as important as all your pieces of your application. Good luck!👍

I'm in a similar situation. I guess key is reapplying ASAP as soon as applications open up. I'll be applying right along with you. For now you should work on a new personal statement since you will be needing one in June.

Definitely reapply! I had a 3.35 sGPA, 3.37 cGPA and a 24 MCAT and I got accepted. So you definitely have a chance so don't give up hope!

Are you an IS (or nearby) student? I am asking this because i have heard PCOM has a strong regional bias

I'm sure you've gotten the hint already, but I agree with most people on here...Definitely REAPPLY! I'm surprised you were even contemplating picking another profession already?

If you want it bad enough you will definitely get there with your stats. And don't forget you're still on the waitlist and alive somehwhere, so be sure to submit a great letter of intent there and stay in contact with them about once a month I'd say, to show you're sincerely interested.

If you don't get in this time around then definitely reapply early, and I would strongly suggest retaking the MCAT and focusing esp. on Verbal, I had a 6 my 2nd time and 10 my 3rd time, so it's definitely possible! I'm sure you'll get in soon enough though, best of luck to you! Stay positive 🙂

Just curious as to where you found this information on LECOM's post-bacc program. I have a hard time navigating their website sometimes.
