Hi all! I need some advices here. Last year, I applied to 21 schools and on wait list for 3 schools. This year, I plan to scale down to 10 schools and reapply for the same schools. So my questions is should I apply for the same schools I did last year or apply for different ones? because I heard schools like re applicant. Is applying to the same one gonna help?
Thanks

Questions:
1) When did you apply?
2) What is you GPA?
3) What are your DAT scores?
4) What are your extracir. activities?
5) What are your dental related activities?
6) Did you do research?
7) Did you ask why you could not get into schools that you waitlisted?

Why would you ever apply to fewer schools your second time around?

you should apply to all the schools that you want to go to; as many as you can afford

The reason I apply to fewer schools because I know my stats and don't want to waste money since I don't have enough so I just see which school that fit my stats. I am still waiting from schools that I'm on the waitlist. This can go up to August so just to be safe I am gonna apply on June 1st.
Do you think the DAT score average increase for the coming cycle? becaue I got 17 on RC and my cumulative GPA is 3.42 and my science GPA is 3.35. I got good amount of ext activities, dental experience, and research.

Just noticed waitlisted2009 was banned. Not that I'm complaining, but what did he write? 😛 This is his most recent post that isn't deleted 😛

The average DAT score has been increasing steadily the past couple cycles. what were your other scores on the DAT. if you did well on the other sections then some schools may be ok with a low RC score

It really depends on your stats, and once you get that down you can still have a few "reach" schools but definitely apply to more schools that are within your range.

Well if he improved his stats he wouldn't need to apply to 25-28 schools.

Definitely reapply to the schools that put you on the waitlist. I recommend you get new LOR and write new PS. It is very important for the schools that put you on the waitlist to see how enthusiastic and firm you are with dentistry. Reapply 3 times might show that you really wanted to practice dentistry, but the new LOR and PS will definitely clear out any doubts. Make your PS shine because at this point I think your LOR, PS, and interview are keeping you at the doorstep. Good luck!
