I need help! I applied for the 2009-2010 cycle and got one interview at OHSU and obviously did not get in. My stats are MCAT 27Q and GPA 3.73. I just retook the MCATS on June 18th for the 3rd time and think I bombed the bio part but dont know yet. I have been working in a lab since I graduated in 2008 and applied and have continued clinical volunteering.

So my dilemma is, do I reapply for the 2010 cycle? Im scared that my application has not changed much, and on July 18th if my MCAT is not higher I think it's going to hinder my application even more. I was thinking of doing a postbac but all the deadlines have past so I wouldnt be able do one until fall of 2010--and even with that I wouldnt know to apply before or after I did the postbac which would mean I would be waiting at least 2 to 3 more years.

Any advice please?? Im so lost right now. I have everything ready to submit but dont know what to do. Especially because the application is pretty much the same, even with the PS. HELPPPPPPPPPPPP PLEASE!

As you know, the 27 MCAT is killing you.

I am in the same exact spot--29 MCAT/3.85. Only two interviews last year (late application), resulting in one waitlist.

I retook and thankfully made a 33S. I thought I bombed PS on that test. Thought I would be lucky if it was an 8. Turned out to be a 10, which will play.

My advice is as follows:

If you have the $200, you need to resubmit AMCAS ASAP with just one school so you can get verified. I mean like yesterday. The last thing you want with a borderline app is to be late.

If the MCAT turned out better than you think, you are going to sit out a year for nothing. If not, you are only down $200.

As said above, submit the app in case the MCAT turns out better than expected. You could even pick 1 school that you have no interest in applying to if you don't want to apply this year in case of a bad score. At least that way it wouldn't do any harm if you drop this year.

With your GPA, there is not much reason for a postbac (if your BCPM is about the same). You'd be better off spending 6 months of hardcore MCAT prep and getting a killer score.

Hope the MCAT turned out better than you thought.
I thought I bombed the Bio section when I took it.
I got a 12 by some miracle. :luck:

Thanks you guys! I really didnt think about just applying with just one school just in case. I think I'm definitley going to make that a very likley option and possibly submitting this weekend with just that one school.

Thanks again for the feedback..good luck to you both in whatever stage you are in!!!!

So I am confused. Say I did send in my application with just one or 2 schools to get my application verified. I would then be considered a 2nd time applicant right? So if I applied again in 2010 to all the other schools would I be considered a 3rd time applicant say even if I did not add them to this 2009 application that I am sending in "just in case". ?

Is this going to hurt me the next time I apply?
