hey guys, I just need some advice what I should lol this is my first time posting a thread , so I apologize for the awkwardness

I applied this cycle, and unfortunately got rejected from all schools. However, I only limited to apply to five schools, since I applied really late in the cycle, and I applied after only 2 years of college, meaning I only had 2 years worth of experiences

MCAT: 512 , cgpa and sgpa: 3.95

Volunteer (non clinical): 180 hours
Volunteer (clinical): 350 hours
Research: 500 hours (no publications since it’s a new lab)
Shadowing: 20 hours (I know it’s low lol)
Other stuff: UTA’s for 3 science labs, I was an instructor for a freshman orientation class , was a volunteer tutor for a semester

I was thinking of applying early on the next cycle, but tbh, I’m not sure if my application will approve drastically from now to June. Should I wait a whole year to reapply or reapply again this cycle?

This might hurt to hear but it sounds like you have a lot of maturing to do. Many applicants have taken years and years to work on themselves as an applicant. While your stats seem great it seems like you need more experience out there in the “real world”. What are some of your volunteer experiences?

I agree with you; I do find myself lacking in maturity in regards going to medicine right now. My volunteer experiences are in the hospital, and with different organizations in my area which is Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity etc,

It sounds like you do have a good deal of variety which is something many applicants lack. If I were you, I would really do some soul searching for another year and get some great clinical experience through being a scribe or medical assistant. Also, practice your interview skills. I thought I was a fantastic interviewer and realize that I am not as charming as I originally thought. You seem to have all the pieces together, it is just that these days the average age of a matriculate is about 26 so your youth might scare some ADCOMs unfortunately.

Thank you so much! This really helped me a lot! And yes, lately, from my own experience, the people that I heard have gotten accepted are all older than by me by at least 2 years! Again, thank you!

@plantersnic If you've only had two years of college thus far, I'm guessing this is your junior year? It wouldn't hurt to apply your senior year and take that gap year. I've have loads of people tell me it was worth it just to catch their breath before going full speed ahead again. This would give you ample time to build that CV up. Apart from shadowing, I'd say you def have an awesome application going for you. Just don't rush it and you got this!

Just pay early this time, get in more volunteering, and have a good target list. Your story is very common.
