Hi everyone I have a 497 mcat, 3.25 cgpa and 3.01 sgpa - integrative neuro from binghamton University
I am attending a 40-42 credit masters program this fall (TouroNY direct admit masters)

Should i apply to schools reguarly while in the masters or should I not bother because my stats are too low? I could send my masters grades by december but other than that not too much change in my app

last cycle i applied in february and got rejected from all DO schools

Did you get any interviews?

If nothing changed do not bother. It's a waste of your time and money. This isn't a dice roll.

Work on redeeming yourself via the masters, pick up some new activities and retake the MCAT. Waiting 2-3 years isn't going to hurt.

I would not suggest reapplying at this time. GPA and MCAT combination are lethal for DO. Submitted in Feb? Double whammy. Compare your stats below to the number/percent of matriculants in 2018.

Edit: left side applicants, right side matriculants | Applicants: 20,981 | Matriculants: 7,415

Are you set on TouroCOM? If so no need for an MCAT retake so focus on acing the program utilizing their linkage:

Direct Matriculation into Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine Graduates of the Masters of Science program who have met the following standards will be invited into the TouroCOM DO program as first year students:

1) Completion of the M.S. curriculum
2) A final program GPA of 3.450/4.0 or higher
3) A passing grade on the Comprehensive Examination
4) Demonstrated professionalism and conduct becoming of a physician throughout the program
5) Otherwise adherence to the Admission deadlines and requirements listed on Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine website, including results from a CASPer (Computer-based Assessment or Sampling Personal Characteristics) assessment taken before the start of the first DO year.

If you want to consider other schools, still ace the program, but I would suggest retaking your MCAT and aiming for 505+. You would need to encoportate a study plan to include this. I usually recommend MCAT retake BEFORE starting the program otherwise most people try to add it on to their second semester studies - you can imagine worst case scenerios. Best of luck!

Your stats are lethal for med school. Do the SMP, ace it and then reapply. If you're boning for the MD, retake the MCAT and ace it.

A single good semester of the SMP won't be enough data points to convince Adcoms that you can handle med school.

OP is in TouroNY's direct admit program - he just needs to do well in the masters to be admitted to med school

Thank you for this advice! I am definitely looking to utilize their linkage- its not too simple though students are graded on a curve- so they are graded against each other on each exam- makes it very competitive but it is what it is i will aim for aceing this program.

you have been a great help to me on this thread, thank you for all the support!
Question for ajagasi1,

I've been searching high and low for possible SMP programs to apply to and I saw that you have similar stats to mine. Seeing as you have been admitted to TouroNY, what recommendations do you have for enhancing my application? I have been feeling a bit discouraged seeing as there are so many applicants with much higher MCAT scores or GPA. I am just now starting my application, would you say it's a bit too late or go for it anyway?

Definitely wait for next cycle as many schools have been filled, i went another route and did arkansas colleges of health educations masters program, I’m currently waitlisted at the school and received another interview from lecom elmira

I recommend any masters you can do well in, aches msbs is also good but I don’t know how strong their linkage is till June/July
last year 34 out of 40 students were admitted into arcom
