I am concerned that I am applying to too little. Please let me know if I should cut any schools out because of OOS or add any.

Stats: GPA 3.73 DAT 24/24 PAT 22
Extracurriculars: 100 hr general dentist SHADOW (only 1) / 1 year orthodontic assist WORK (600-700hrs?) / research VOLUNTEER maybe 2years (800 -900 hrs?)- got poster published but thats it LOL
I am worried because I heard they don't like specialty hours as much as general, but because of COVID I was unable to find any other general dentists willing to allow me to shadow.

Why even apply to USC or NYU? Do you really want to spend $430K+ on tuition ALONE? You're from California -- do you want to fly across country just for dental school? Why did you not apply to UNLV (In-state tuition after the first year)? Harvard, Washington, Michigan, Penn, UCLA, UCSF, UOP -- why these schools? Because of the name and "prestige" of them?

Of course you can apply and do what you want, but it seems like you picked schools based off of NAME rather than COST. I would highly suggest applying to the schools that will be cheapest for you over 4 years. You have great stats, you'll get into a lot of schools. If I were you, I would apply to 10 schools, with 7 of them being the cheapest possible (outside of schools like UNC and Texas schools in which you have no chance of getting in as a CA resident), and apply to 3 of the "Prestigious" ones since it seems like you want to.

You'll get the same info from every dental school because they are regulated by CODA. You can specialize from any dental school. I am going into my D4 year and I chose the school I'm at because it was the cheapest I got in. Trust me, go to the cheapest.

I am grateful for your words, but I would like if you did not assume why I applied to specific schools. I want to apply to UCLA UCSF UOF USC because they are in California. I have the greatest chance of getting into them because I am a resident.

I also plan on doing the military scholarship to cover cost, so I decided to apply to more pricey schools as well. I agree the cost is a big factor, but my greatest concern is I am applying to too little or too much. Thank you for your advice. I'll apply to UNLV as well.
