Major: Human biology
Minor:
Minority: no
Reapplicant?
No
Nontrad? No

Shadowing Experience:
General dentist 1: 20 h
General dentist 2: 80 h
Volunteering Experience: medical clinic: 100 hours
Employment: ophthalmic technician : 1 year (more than 500h)
Research: currently on my last year of a thesis based master, have 1 publication on hand and second one coming
Other Extracurriculars: local badminton competition: 100 h, no award, no trophies. Currently volunteering in a food bank (just started).
Have you volunteered/shadowed/attended events at any dental school? No
Relevant Honors or Awards: went to an national conference to present my work and got a minor trainee award (mostly to compensate my travel fees), 3 dean’s list
LOR type and strength: bio prof (strong), medical doctor (strong), my supervisor (strong), dentist (strong)
Misc Info/Things not stated elsewhere/Red Flags: I had a really rough first year, got two Fs and two Bs, a tragic event had happened (don’t want to discuss it online). Moving on I have all As. There are quite a bit of medical experience on my application, that’s because it is quite difficult to find a dentist that is willing to provide shadowing opportunities in CA ( it could be just me), I felt like medical experience could somewhat transfer to what I will be doing in dentistry in terms of how to interact with patients etc. plus I need a job to pay my bills…….
School list:
NYU
Boston
Case western reserve
Touro
Tuft

Baffulo
Midwestern
Temple
Detroit mercy
Maryland
Minnesota

Should I apply this late at all? money is not a factor.

I looked for Canadian friednly schools and went on the ADEA school exploer to check if they accept a fair amount of international students in every cycle.

are your LORs completed?

are you aware that howard is an HBCU?

do you have a religious person in authority to write you an LOR for loma linda?

yes my LORs are completed.

I am awared.

No, but is it exclusively admit people that are religious?

... Buffalo???

Howard is an HBCU program focused on underserved/underrepresented applicants. You don't share any personal information how you meet their mission.

Loma Linda is affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventists. Did you include a spiritual leader reference in your 4 AADSAS letter slots?

The medical experience will be discounted in your application and may not necessarily help you. As a result, your dental clinical experience seems to be lighter than desired.

You also lack involvement with community service, especially those in need.
Do you think I should apply for this cycle? is it worth the shot? or Do I apply next cycle and get more experience meanwhile.

I have Buffalo as well, I missed that one, but looking at their stats, Buffalo seems to admit very few international students.

  • Three recommendations are required: employer or dental professional, pre-professional committee, or science professor uploaded with AADSAS application. A spiritual recommendation form must be submitted along with the LLUSD supplemental application.

have you researched how many non-minority canadian students are admitted to howard?

I will remove both LLUSD and howard from my list then

you are right, There were no non-minority Canadian students admitted in the last admissions cycle.

did you retake your CDAT?
how did your GPA go up so much in 5.5 months?
and why are your shadowing, volunteering, and work hours so different?

That was my GPA before the AADSAS ADEA conversion. In UofT, a 80 = 3.7 = A-, but it seems like after conversion anything from 80-89 is an A, this boosted my gpa and I took some additional courses in my master as well.

I felt like I had way too much medical experience, working as a Opthalmic technician for at least 20 hours a week and lasted for a year, volunteered in a two medical clinic for admin etc. I felt like it might hurt my application, so I did not put everything on my application.

I have to be honest here, that DAT score was from my DAT mock test,

The dental shadowing hour was a lie, I was really stressed about my chance in going to a dental school, espcially with my rough first year. In Canada I would say my chance is nearly 0 if not at 0. I wanted to know if my GPA is going to cut it in the U.S., So I lie about my dental experience just to see if I have any chance if I can get my hours up there.

I have emailed about 100 dental clinics , close to 0 of them replied my email, I was very desperate in finding any dental shadowing experience, every other job position in a dental clinic require some certificates, I applied close to 20 dental assistant position, none was successful

I appologize for my previous thread, I was very anxious, I guessed I needed something to comfort myself.

is anything else in your OP in this thread a lie?

How can we trust you that you are telling the truth?

Your chances rely on having a solid score on the DAT. I revoke my advice until we get an official result. I also advise you to be fully honest and upfront as dishonesty or a lack of integrity that breaches others' trust is grounds for unprofessionalism when you become a student or practitioner.

DO NOT APPLY until you get a DAT score. Take a deep look at yourself and reflect whether dentistry is really the right career for you if you cannot trust yourself with an honest presentation of your qualifications. The inability to be frank and fully honest with the truth of your profile shows a lack of integrity. This is not reddit. We want to make sure you present yourself professionally, even in this online forum so that we can give you advice that helps your chances to achieve your career goals. Correct this behavior now.
