Hey all!
I have done some research, but I really do not want to mess this question up on my AMCAS app, and I was wondering if this counts as an IA that I ought to report.
After class one day (several years ago), my professor asked if another classmate and I could stay after class. A few weeks earlier, we had a quiz (3-4 questions), and he noticed that we both had the same wrong answer written on the quiz (I didn't do the assigned reading, and I remember just writing random stuff that I recalled from previous lectures in the answer space). He gave us a stern talk about the importance of academic honesty and that he never wanted to see that again from either of us as the penalties would be devastating; however, because the professor "did not want to ruin someone's career," s/he decided to give us zeros on the quiz. And that was the end of it - I didn't sit before a council, was never contacted again about the incident, and my status at the University did not change. It should be noted that because the class did so poorly on the quiz, that particular quiz counted as extra credit. Furthermore, because I was a horrible student and never did the required reading, I believe that I didn't get any of the questions right (so I had a zero on the quiz anyway) - the other classmate got the other questions right so he did lose points.
I really did not care about school at the time (I know that I lacked maturity), and I was planning on dropping out anyway. But I did not cheat. However, I was never given an opportunity to explain what happened (or even maintain my innocence), and I never appealed the decision. I did a little digging, and I found in my school's student handbook that professors could handle minor incidents "informally," but I could not find any more information.
As was recommended by AMCAS, I obtained an official transcript and a copy of my disciplinary record from the Dean of Students - the transcript did not contain any indication of the incident, and my discipline record stated that I had no history of misconduct at the University.
I have spent a long long time trying to make up the sins of my past (bad grades and such), and I just feel that this incident would be a nail in the coffin. Do I need to report this incident? Thank you!
