Hey all,

I'm currently a junior and just got my MCAT score back, 32R. Not too stellar, but I'm wondering if I should retake. I go to an ivy league (not that it matters that much) and have a 3.94 GPA.

I have a lot of research experience with a few publications.

Should I retake the MCATs, or should I continue pursuing my research with that time?'

Thanks

It depends on what you think you can get.

What have you been getting on your practice exams? If you feel like you have a good chance of getting 37+ I would suggest retaking it.

Hey scg,

well i was scoring in the high 30's, but I guess my nerves got the best of me on test day. if I grind away at it for another 6 months i know I can do better, but I don't know if it's worth it. I'm just unsure of what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

With the 3.94 and a "a lot" of research experience (I'm thinking 4+ years by the time you'd matriculate), you're likely to still get in, and possibly somewhere big name. The question is whether you'll get in somewhere you like more if you retake the MCAT and get a higher score. I just don't know the answer, and I'm not sure anyone is going to have a definitive answer for you on this.

I suggest you retake it. With intense preparation, I think you're likely to see a substantial improvement.

32 is not the end of the world (as a matter of fact I have the same score). I would say retake ONLY if you know you can get 35+. Scoring in the same range or even lower (god forbid) may hurt your chances.

Did you spend less than 2 months (15 hours/week) studying? If yes, I'd think you have the potential to score better. Based on personal experience, I'd say that the biological and physical science sections are easier to improve than the verbal one.
