So I just took my DAT yesterday and my scores were:

Perceptual Ability- 21
Quantitative Reasoning- 21
Reading Comprehension- 24
Biology- 17
General Chemistry- 19
Organic Chemistry- 21
Total Science- 19
Academic Average- 20

Now, this was my first attempt and I was definitely expecting worse. I got on track for predental pretty late so I have not had optimal time to prepare for everything. From what I've been seeing, my scores seem pretty average except for biology. I am not the most involved when it comes to "pre-health prep" so I wanted to ask for advice! If I plan on applying in this current application cycle, do you think it is wise for me to retake the DAT? If I did try to retake it, it would have to be in October, which would be pretty late... Any input would be appreciated!

Hi Souper,

Your scores are great with the exception of the Bio, what is your SGPA and where are you applying?

Nancy

Have you started your application this cycle? If so, I think your DAT scores are fine, but could definitely improve.
If you haven't started your application/asking for letter of recs, it'll be better to retake it in the near future so you can be better prepared for the next cycle. Also to try to join some more clubs and volunteer.

My GPA also isn't the highest, at a 3.42. But yea, I'm already pretty behind so I definitely don't want to wait till the next cycle unless I have to.
My SGPA is a 3.4. Does it help that all my recommendations are coming from upper level biology classes, along with the fact that I was a TA for microbiology. ....which is kind of ironic seeing as I did poorly on the bio section. I guess that also just shows how random the bio section can be 😕
