I'm currently a postbac student. Should I retake Physics? I took Physics I & II back in undergrad and got a B & B-, respectively. However, it's been about 9 or 10 years since I've seen the material. Do you think it's best to retake the course or review on my own?

The questions to ask yourself are "How much of this do your remember?" "Do you remember enough to do well on the MCAT?" and "Can you review enough on your own, to do well on the MCAT?"

If you don't need to take this couse for GPA damage control, then you may want to consider an audit so that you can learn/review the material without the pressure of a grade in the event that you find that you need a course.

It was 15 years between my General Physics and taking the MCAT for me. I was able to do well with a good review on my own. This worked for me but may not work for others. You have to figure out what you need.

A good place to start would be taking a free diagnositic test from one of the test prep companies like Kaplan or TPR. These tests are likely to be very difficult but if you find that you understanding is great, you may be able to do your own review and do fine on the actual MCAT.

For many schools, I don't think you have a choice, do you? Most schools want to see all the premed classes being taken recently, like in the past 3 -5 years. I have a liberal arts degree (from 15 years ago), with tons of language and English comp, etc., and I still retook my 6 hours of English for premed. Unless you have a graduate degree with those level of science classes, I'd definitely recommend retaking.

Do I have to retake everything? Graduated 2002 with BS in Biology, BA in Philosophy, the a BS in Nursing. Grades not stellar. Would I need to retake english, calculus, as well???

Thanks 😱

Where did you hear this? Deans and adcoms I have spoken to feel the MCAT cover whether you know the basics, and all you need to to is to take several semesters of upper-level science courses to show that "you still have it" as far as academics go.
