I just got back from taking the OAT and I'm a bit worried about my score.

I really want to get into SCCO. I know that they expect a certain score for each section but I'm getting mixed information on whether i should retake the OAT or not.

OR: 330
RC: 260
BIO: 270
CHEM: 400
OCHEM: 320
PHYS: 300
TS: 310
AA: 310

My overall GPA is 3.95
My science GPA is 4.00

What are my chances? Should I retake the test to up my Bio and RC score?

I'd call the school to be honest, because your GPA is amazing. If you had a lower GPA I'd say for sure retake it, but I don't know. Those aren't the best sections to get below 300 on. If it was ochem they probably wouldn't care as much since that doesn't really play a role in OD school.

If you've already applied for this coming school year it's too late to retake anyway. If you're applying this summer, you might as well retake it b/c you have plenty of time.

hello t89,

I was admitted into SCCO for c/o 2014, and I did quite a lot of research on the school before applying. I know for a fact that they want every section to be no lower than a 300, regardless of your GPA. I have many friends that also applied to SCCO and was told that they must retake the OAT to get above a 300 in every section before they will be granted an interview.

This cut off does not necessarily apply to other schools, but I am positive it is the case for SCCO.

Good luck! 🙂

Thanks for bringing this up - I had heard this before but couldn't remember if it applied to SCCO or not. 👍

Thanks for the information everyone! I didn't know about the 300 requirement for scco. I will definitely take it again since I'm applying this summer.

I was given an interview to SCCO for next week. The only thing you need to do it get RC up to 300. TS, AA, and RC must be 300 or better to qualify. My ochem score was below 300, so I know that they will overlook this if your TS is 300 or higher.

Good luck!

Oh, thanks for this information! I want to go to SCCO too, but my ochem and physics score is below 300, however, my TS and AA is 300 and higher.

I got a 260 in my RC and everything else around 330. I was told to retake the OAT and boost RC to at least 300 for an interview.

I'm debating on whether I should retake it now after just receiving acceptance to NECO today. Any suggestions?

eyeluvchocolate, if you don't mind telling, what was your OAT and GPA?

Sorry to say, but you are incorrect on this. I was admitted to SCCO this admissions cycle with a score on 1 science section of 290. I have since accepted a position at PUCO c/o 2014.

eyeluvchocolate, if you don't mind telling, what was your OAT and GPA?

For my OAT, I got 330 for Total Science, and 310 for Academic Average..RC dragged it down =(

I'm from Canada, so our grading system is in percentage. I have a B+ average, and somehow that turned into a 3.06 GPA in OptomCAS... I think its my shadowing, volunteer, and research experience all throughout undergrad that made up for my "so-so" OAT score and GPA.

Just wondering, how many would you choose NECO over SCCO? I really don't wanna bother re-writing the OAT for SCCO.... but I do love the west coast. Help...

I would choose SCCO simply because it's near home. But from what I know, SCCO is one of the more expensive schools to attend. I'm not really sure about academics though.
