Hi All, I am starting med school this August but have not been in school since end of 2011. I feel that I have forgotten a lot of chemistry and organic chemistry. I was wondering if it's recommended that I brush up on them this summer before I start med school. I have heard that biochem is important in med school but I never took it. Does med school require good knowledge of the premed prereqs courses like chem and physics? Are entering med students expected to know those subjects well? I just want to make sure I prepare myself adequately to give my self a good head start! Thanks for any input!

Great idea too ask...I too have been outer school for a year now and wonder if anyone has any advice how to just get my mind ready for the work load.

Nope. They'll teach you everything you need to know. Be ready to memorize stuff.

no, absolutely not, go and have fun, it would be a waste of time to go over chem/orgo again

Enjoy your last days! 🙂

I have never done anything with organic chem since sophomore year of college. its not even useful in med school

Thanks, everyone! I was worried because one of the schools i got accepted to actually sent me a letter recommending that if I haven't taken Biochem that I should consider taking a summer course before school starts as they have found that students who took Biochem tended to perform better/handle the material better. It seems that most people from past threads on this topic had felt it unnecessary. I wonder why the school feels it's important enough to send out a letter...

However, i do have a feeling that it wouldn't help much so i think i will take the advice here.

Biochem is a different story, however I would still say it's likely unnecessary. The information covered in biochem would only help you out for maybe the first 3 weeks of med school. Enjoy the last summer of true freedom you will likely have!

You mind is going to have an enormous workload ahead of it. Prepare for the big task by using it as little as possible beforehand. And give it alcohol. Lots of alcohol.

100% srs

Why would anyone want to spend their last days of freedom studying?
