Hello experts,

I am fortunate enough to have received an acceptance at University of Colorado School of Medicine. I love everything about the school except the OOS tuition and the distance from my home (NJ). I was also placed on the priority waitlist at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, which after seeing, was also amazing. Despite their "newness" the school is extremely impressive and seems like it's going places. I vibed with their mission, it was close to home (IS Tuition too), had ample opportunities in Philly and plenty of emphasis on volunteer work in the city of Camden. Without a doubt, if I were to be accepted by Cooper I would enroll. This I believe is the indication to write a letter of intent.

However, Cooper does not accept updates. This is part of the notification:

"Candidates accepted from the waitlist will be notified of their status change immediately, and this process most often occurs in late spring to early summer. We hope to be able to provide you with more definitive information as early as possible.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions about this process."

I am wondering if that last line "Please feel free to contact us..." is enough grounds for me to submit some sort of letter of intent as a reply (or even to ask the school if they would accept a letter of intent). I'm worried that if I were to do that would it come off as pushy and sending an update. The alternative is that I should remain patient and hope for the best (It's barely the beginning of spring yet much less late spring / early summer). If it is correct to write the letter, I plan on waiting at least until the end of March before I send it.

I was also wondering if there were any suggestions on the best way to write a letter so that it doesn't come off as using the A's I have as a ransom, but rather helps me establish how serious I am about enrolling at this school regardless of other offers.

Any help is appreciated thanks a lot!
Your best update is with the Choose Your Medical School Tool then, provided they announced their procedures on how the input they get from that tool will be used or useful for them. I'd remain patient; they know you are in-state and so the factors affecting any movement will likely be other in-state commits they are counting on through the tool. So if you decide to connect with them, I'd ask specifically about whether the Choose Your Medical School responses factor into waitlist consideration (hence an additional question about the process if it's not already posted publicly).

Thanks for the speedy response. My only issue is that they won't come up on the Choose your medical school tool because an acceptance is required to see their school.
Oh that's true. Again, I gave you an instruction that seems to conform to their request for communication to be restricted to their process. Don't do more than that. Then be patient. It's hard because in-state waitlists don't tend to move because everyone who wants to attend for the in-state tuition discount will not want to get rid of their spot that quickly. Of course, going to Denver even briefly for medical school isn't a bad trade-off.
