Hi there,

I was recently accepted to a fantastic medical school, but waitlisted at my top choice. My top choice is known for being madly in love with LOIs, and they explicitly state they give priority to applicants with a previous LOI on file.

Do you think I should write this letter? It would be a dream to attend this school; however, I don’t think they’d ever accept me with my current stats. As much as I love my current acceptance, I’d much rather be at this dream school.

Thanks!!
Did you write them a previous LOI?

I don't know how much I trust the "madly in love" characterization, but I will agree it doesn't hurt. However, if you already interviewed at that school and got waitlisted, I suggest waiting a bit until we get into the Choose My School window. I will also ask what you intend to do with the 3 other acceptances you received; will you turn them down so that other people on waitlist like you to their schools can get a shot to be accepted?

Regarding Goro, I have not written a previous LOI to this school. Catalystik, this is a post-interview waitlist!

I’ve already withdrawn from my 3 other acceptances. Personally, I don’t think it’s right to hold acceptances when you don’t absolutely plan on attending those schools, so I instantly made sure to decline them. Some students would dream of going to those schools, and I don’t want to be the person withholding them from their dreams.

All in all, I’m just not sure of when/if I should write this. I’ve seen severely negative connotations regarding LOIs on this forum, and I don’t want to be nicked for submitting one. Thank you all!
Forgive the snark, but this is why that have a CARS section on the MCAT.

"and they explicitly state they give priority to applicants with a previous LOI on file. "

You already have your answer from the school.
