Should I send applications to Dental schools before taking the DATs?

Excuse my naiveness when it comes to the application process but can someone walk me through as to what it all requires?

I graduate this upcoming May and do not plan to be ready for the DATs until early July. Does anyone recommend that I should start preparing my apps before then (getting recommendation letters, committee letters, etc.). Or are dental schools only interested in your apps when you have the DAT scores. My goal is to be one of the considered applicants before being put on layaway after the thousands of early applicants fighting for the same spot.

If it helps I hope to attend NYU or Rutgers for their admission class of 2016

Thank you!

You can prepare right now for when the application is open in June 1st, I believe. Start talking to your professors about getting LORs and preparing for a committee letter if you are interested in that.

Even if you submit your app in early and be in the first batch, schools will not review you until you take the DAT and they receive the score. They need a completed application to look at. Note that it can take up to a few weeks for the application portal to receive your score. Regardless, send everything early as soon as you can while you prepare for your exam. Early bird gets the worm.

Send in all your stuff right away when apps open up and submit it. D schools wont look at your app until they get your DAT score. But it is wise to have everything else all sent in and done b/c some of the stuff may take time to be sent (like LoRs), or an issue may arise, and you dont want to be waiting on that after you already have your DAT done.
