Should I SMP? High stats, mid LoRs, little research

What classes are included in your science GPA that are relevant for medical school admissions? You took these courses a long time back, so the issue is the appropriate academic rigor and support you need to transition to medical school.

Remember the C's: Cost, Curriculum, and Community. Look for articulation agreements and test prep resources. Talk to admissions for both your preferred medical schools and the postbac options.

Hi everyone, hoping for some input as to whether an SMP is right for me.

Neutral: Non-trad, humanities major

My strengths:
- cGPA: 3.9, sGPA: 3.9
- Confident I can get 520+ on MCAT (presumptuous I know, but I truly do think I can)
- Strong work, leadership, community, clinical experiences

My weaknesses:
- Pre-reqs will be 7-10 years old by time of application
- Mid science LoRs, strong other LoRs (work, humanities profs)
- Graduated from small religious undergrad
- Only research is an undergrad science thesis and poster at undergrad honors conference

I don’t think I absolutely need an SMP to get into medical school. However, I have my eyes set on MD schools in the Northeast and Texas (OOS) because of family. With that being said, would an SMP be essential if I wanted to get into a top-tier med school? A lot of the schools here in the NE are super competitive and being OOS for Texas it’ll be similar.

I don’t know how else I can show that I can handle the coursework, get good science recs, or find a research field of interest.

Also, can anyone attest to the outcomes of Quinnipiac’s MHS and UConn’s post-bacc program B? Would these programs prepare one or provide the resources needed to do research or bulk up an app? I’m also considering Brown’s MMS. For me, in terms of distance and cost, Quinnipiac > UConn > Brown. If Q and UConn can prepare me, I’d likely go to one of them but Brown has great outcomes though it would require moving.
I think SMP’s are for people who need to improve their profile… pre reqs 7-10 years old I don’t think count anymore. I believe most schools want pre reqs taken within 5 years tops. In that case, you wouldn’t need an SMP you’d need to take every course. Maybe call up the schools you’re interested in and ask

Horrible advice most DO schools dont have course expiration. Some md schools do a lot dont. Did you even bother searching this?
