Hey y'all

I was recently accepted to Western U and I still have interviews with lecom Erie and another interview at Touro California as well Des Monies.

My question is it worth it to go on these interviews.

It will be if you don't get in to Western

The poster states that he/she was accepted to Western, so I don't think it's an issue.

Anyway, if you really thought Western was for you and you have no doubts then save the money and skip the other interviews. If you weren't 100% about Western or just didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling when you interviewed then you might want to check out at least one of the other schools.

Grats! And good luck. 🙂

I read that wrong

My bad

If you want to go to Western, no need to go on any of the other interviews. If you aren't sure it's for you, maybe check out a couple of the other schools, and re-schedule some of the other interviews if you can, so you don't have to schedule all the trips around the same time.

You can save money, and if you come up on something you really like, you can see how it plays out before going on the other interviews

If you want to go to Western then just cancel the interviews at the other schools.

Its ALWAYS worth it to go on interviews of any kind.
I don't know about that. If he lives on the west coast, it'd be an expensive trip to come all the way to Erie if he's not actually interested in going there or really wants to go to Western. If Western is what you want, save your money, cancel your other interviews, and just relax for the last few months you can!

Only if money is not an issue. If he has an interview and doesn't want to "waste" another 500-1000$ and perhaps take time off from work/school then these other interviews will be superfluous and excessive.

I would only go for these reasons:

If you're not 100% sure Western is for you

If another school offers a unique format (I know some of the Erie schools do PBL so it may be interesting to see if you think PBL is a better fit for you)

If the school is generally considered to be a much better school than Western, I get the impression that Des Moines is pretty amazing and has a great reputation, plus I hear their anatomy lab is the best for any osteopathic school.

Also, cost there is a "Cost of DO Attendance" excel floating around SDN and they have Western cost without living expenses to be upwards of $40,000 for next year (I believe it is one of the most expensive DO schools). So, if there is a solid difference in cost between Western and another one of these schools, then I would go to the interview and check it out.

One thing to consider about Touro CA is that if you are accepted they require a $2,000 deposit to hold your spot in the class within two weeks of acceptance. This deposit is non-refundable, so getting an acceptance at TOURO CA will force you into making a decision rather quickly.

Ultimately, it's your decision and it's about where you think you'll fit best. I've been accepted to TOURO CA and I like it so much that I'm not going on any other interviews, unless I get offered an interview for my in-state MD schools b/c they have better pathways into oncology and the tuition is so cheap that it's worth it to try.

Interviewing at other schools will be no pressure as you have an acceptance already. Visiting another school will broaden your perspective and provide you with a basis of comparison.

If you are 100% sold on Western then cancel. Otherwise go and enjoy the ride.

I should clarify then. From an experience standpoint, it is ALWAYS worth it to go to an interview.

Its practice...just like anything else.

one way of looking at is:

wherever western is ranked on your "wanna go" list, you can pretty much disregard all the schools ranked lower on said list.

this is kinda what i did. when i got accepted to a school that was high on my list, i declined to attend interviews to schools lower on my list...

congrats on getting in!

i canceled 3 interviews after i got into a school that i knew i would go to over the other schools, but I still went to interviews where I was excited to learn more about the schools. DMU is a good school and a has a lot of good things going for it. i'd go to that interview if i were in your shoes.
