I need some advice, I am taking my MCAT on July 26. So I'm expecting to receive my score sometime in late August. I have low stats 3.15 cGPA 3.0 sGPA but I am an URM (Hispanic) so I don't know how much it will help me. I messed up my freshman and first semester of sophomore year but there is an upward trend in gpa. I will have strong LOR, 200 hours of shadowing and 100 hours of volunteering at my local hospital. I'm a Texas resident and will be applying to all the Texas medical schools including the D.O one, and about 15 MD out of state schools that are URM friendly or have lower gpa requirements and 10 DO schools. I'm hoping to score above a 30 (currently taking the Princeton Review course and studying at least 6 hrs a day). So with my stats, would you go ahead and submit your application to get verified without the MCAT score, or wait until the MCAT score come in around late August?
Thank you for the advice

If you have your broad (and I emphasize broad because of your GPA) list of schools that you want to apply to, I would suggest you submit it for verification ASAP without mcat unless this mcat is your second score. Then I would suggest the latter. Schools won't screen you out without an mcat score and it really only matters to most schools after you submit your secondaries. So submit your app, complete your non-pre screened secondaries before you get your mcat score back.

Now if you think you'd do less than a 30 (or with your GPA, maybe a 32-33), then I suggest you wait because applying would probably be a waste of time and money if you're not competitive for ANY medical school.

Definitely submit your app without your MCAT score to get it in the verification queue early. If you're concerned about your score being bad, just apply to only 1 school to get the application going. Then once you get your score you can add the rest of the schools in later.

do the essays need to be submitted with the primary application (submitting without mcat)?

The essays? The primary includes a personal statement and a work/activities section, which both take a decent amount of time to write. Submitting the primary includes submitting both of these sections. So yes, you have to submit both of these these things when applying (with or without an MCAT).

Thanks for reply.

Do you think it's better if I just write my mcat and then work on essays for two weeks and submit while I am waiting from my mcat score?

Is it possible/likely to get screened out with a low 1st time score even if you list that you have an upcoming MCAT? I already know what schools I will be applying to, but my current MCAT score is 27... I am retaking and if my real test matches my practices, I should be going up to >35.

Yes. I know at least one person who got cut from several schools for a low first score who applied and submitted their secondary before their second score came out
