Hello Everyone,

I have my application basically done, however, I'm not taking my DAT until July 29th. Should I submit my application now so everything can get processed, and all I'll have to worry about is my DAT scores being sent in... Or should I wait until after I take the DAT to submit? I'm not really sure which is the better route to take. I thought maybe someone here would have some insight.

Thanks!

You should submit now because your application will take around 4 weeks to process after you submit it. The DAT scores are uploaded usually a week after your exam. You don't want to risk getting your application delayed till late August if you submit after your DAT.

That depends on how good your GPA is in my opinion... if you did 'ok' on your DAT but you have a stellar GPA, then you've still got a shot even if your dat wasn't so hot.

What if your gpa isn't great and you really needed that 21+ DAT but you scored like a 17... then wooooooosh $$$ down the drain, which could've been spent to fix up your application.

As long as everything is set on application, you should e-submit it.

Like Lane138 said, it literally takes 4 weeks to process (average). It can also get delayed if there are any mishaps with mails. So it is always good idea to get it in even if you take the DAT later. BUT REMEMBER TO REVIEW ALL THE SECTIONS BEFORE SUBMITTING FOR ANY MISTAKE THAT MAY LOOK UNPROFESSIONAL

I took DAT on 5/31 and AADSAS received my official score on 6/17. So if this is same for you then AADSAS will receive the official DAT score on ~8/15. I don't think AADSAS will mail application without DAT score? or schools won't even look at the application without DAT score even if it gets send.

Ok, so I have a similar question. I'm taking biology 1 & 2 over the summer. The second half ends August 11th. I figured I would take the DAT a couple weeks after that, to give me some time to polish up on the other parts of the test. I'm finishing the bio 1 (with an A) next week, so my question is should I wait to apply until after I finish the second half of biology or just send it in now? I'm still rounding up letters and shadowing, but I don't want to be too late applying. However, I'm trying to bring up my cumulative GPA (~2.9c, 3.5s, 3.7BCP) that I screwed up when I was younger. I anticipate getting an A, but is it worth the wait? Can I just fax it to the schools later once I'm finished or would I have to wait until November to update the grade in AADSAS? And if I were to apply now and I didn't get my DAT done until mid August would AADSAS send my application out to my schools without a DAT? I'm still trying to figure all this our so any advice would by greatly appreciated. Thanks! 🙂

same situation here. taking 2nd quarter of orgo chem in the summer, and DAT on July 28th. none of my letters are in yet, but I submitted my app anyways. I think everything will sort itself out after you take the DAT, all you can do now is it submit early rather than late.

If you have reviewed your application and everything else is complete and perfect, submit it. It's going to take time for your application to process and you disadvantage yourself the later you submit your application. You can still update your grades after you submit. You just have to let them know a course is in progress and/or give them the date you're taking your DAT.
