I am done with almost all my pre-reqs for DSchool and am taking biochem this sem. My last one. I graduated with a liberal arts degree and have anatomy and histology in addition to all the other pre reqs. I have applied this cycle and I thought taking biochem by itself seemed odd so I registered for genetics and physio. But now I'm starting to think it's kind of unnecessary to take physio. I don't know. I spoke to a friend in D school who said not To take it cuz the detail in the class is nothing even close to what they teach in D school. And she said she never had histo before School but she did fine. I guess I was taking it incase I don't get in this yr then nxt yr I could show them I took 3 sciences. Even then my schedule is 9 credits only but I have nothing else I can fill it up with. The school I want to get into ( my state school) said they don't care how many credits I take at this point. She even said I don't need to take the upper level biochem, just a foundations class is fine but I thought I should take the upper level just cuz I'm paying for it. Any suggestions?

Taking either the introductory level or higher level Biochemistry is your own choice, easier and potentially better grade or learn more. You're own decision.

As for (human) physiology, while it is not a REQUIRED prereq for a majority of the school, expect to see a few amount of them that do require them. I don't know them all off the top of my head but if I'm not mistaken I believe both the Midwesterns require it, and so does Michigan.

Correct me if I'm wrong on the specific schools, but many schools DO require them so double check with the ADEA guide.

Michigan does not require physiology based on their website, but both Midwesterns do require it like you said, and a few others are Nova, Indiana, AZ, Missouri, Ohio, and Oregon.

nova doesnt require it.

Yes it is up to you what you want to take. If you can handle all three go for it. More you know, the better.

As far as Biochemistry goes, this is what I heard from the others:
It is true that you do not need to take biochemistry because obviously it is not a pre-req (I think Tufts requires biochemistry I though), but it is referred as a "recommended-req." So if you take the course and get an A, it will look great. I interpret this as the other way too though. If you don't get a good grade, then it was better off not taking the class at all. Stay on top of the your game and get a good grade 🙂

Thanks for the reply Demps and Dental815, but my question was do dental schools care is it Animal or Human Physio? Because I don't know which one to take...
if u want just take it.

I know one of the D-schools, specifically said basic human physiology, so if you're taking it as a requirement, it would be human physiology, but as an elective, maybe optional. JMO
