Hi everyone, I'm a 4th year DO student applying to anesthesiology this year (ok grades/ok letters/some research in unrelated fields, top 1/2 of class etc etc, nothing really stands out). I ended up scoring in the low 220's on Step I. I am studying for step II and was planning to take it but got cold feet and backed out. Basically, I'm am wondering whether my step I score will land me a position in a 'good' University-based program (not shooting for top tier and I know california programs are a long shot). I talked with a recent graduate of my school who matched into anesthesiology and suggested that I do NOT have to take step II (especially since i'm not ready) as my Step I is decent. What's everyone elses' take??
