  1. Pre-Dental
So I am waiting to hear back from two dental schools that I interviewed at, but I want to prepare myself for possibly having to reapply this upcoming year. I am assisting an orthodontist full time and tutoring on Fridays. I received a 20 AA on my DAT with my lowest in BIO (18). My GPA in undergrad, I just graduated last May, was 3.5 overall with 3.35 science and an upward trend of a 3.79 my last two years.

I'm volunteering a ton to ensure that's not a reason for question next cycle, because I was lacking this go around. I took the first part of Anatomy and Physiology at my state school last semester and received a B+, which I wasn't thrilled about, but I was driving 3 hours a couple times a week to help my mom that is sick so things could probably have gone worse. Regardless, my reason for posting all of this is what do you all think about taking a 400 level biology class for a mild bump in sGPA and hopefully a good letter recommendation? I unfortunately have to wait a semester to take the other half of A&P and this 400 level class is a human evolution course. There is an option to take a genetics class, but it would take just too much of the day away from my work schedule. Thank you ahead of time for any advice.

how much would it bump up your GPA if you took it and got an A or A- or B+ etc?

Have you considered retaking the DAT? Taking additional courses can only boost your GPA a few decimals, not really making a huge dent. But retaking the DAT and boosting that score can dramatically increase the strength of your app and offset your GPA

It would bump my GPA maybe .2 points if I receive an A in the course.

I have considered it, but I'm trying to avoid having to take the test again. On top of working for the orthodontist, I'm also doing research for him on the weekends with a dental school, so I really don't want to have to give that up to study for the DAT. The reason for taking the class would in part be to get a better LOR from a biology professor, which I think I need for my application.

What was your score in each section of the DAT?
