Should I take this class?

I'm currently attending a community college for one term before transferring to a University. I'm a pre-vet student. I'm signing up for my classes and can't decide whether it is a waste of my time to take a class called MED LAW & ETHICS. I don't know if it will be applicable. Any suggestions? Thanks!🙂

A class like that isn't a requirement at any vet school I looked at, but it wouldn't hurt if you want to take it. I took a medical ethics class in undergrad and it was a lot about privacy laws and we looked at cases and used ethical theories to figure out what should be done in them. I think it's a useful class to have for when you're a vet - there's a lot more to practicing than just the medical stuff.

Take whatever interests you, vet-med related or not, as long as you get your prerequisites done. Once you're a vet student you won't be exploring other topics much, so take advantage of the freedom you have in your undergrad years.

Senior year, I took Chinese, Urban Anthropology, Sports in Society, and like 1 biology class per semester. I had fun with them and got to spend time with subjects I won't be able to explore as in-depth again. So glad I did that knowing that the next two years will all be intense science.

Some veterinary schools require two semesters of social science so if that falls under the sociology department and you're looking at a vet school that requires it you should go for it - if you're interested in the course. Just looking at the title, I would guess it has more to do with human medicine; however, it might be a topic that is just good to know about.

Yeah. I'm posting that in kind of a regretful way because I DIDN'T branch out like you did. Being in a biomedical science program and taking the 3 year plan didn't leave me much wiggle room so it was pretty much all science besides my required humanities, though I did take one class about history of diseases which was pretty neat. The science electives I took were really cool, but still I wish I had explored other fields more. So, don't make the same mistake OP.

Why not take it? If you're already a full time student and don't have to pay too much extra, you might as well learn and study to your heart's content.

When I started undergrad, many of my peers hated the idea of the "general education courses." I loved taking non-science courses as much as I enjoyed taking my biology coursework. Drawing and reading Greek literature was more fun than it was work.

If there's one course I wish that I had time to take, it would be classical mythology. I'm in grad school and still sad about that one. Now it's just not plausible to take a freshman level course. Talk about a non-science.

I agree whole heartily. Explore whats out there, if your interested in the course take it, if not don't. There are tons of interesting courses in school you could take to fill humanities credits so explore, who knows, maybe you will find something your more interested in then this.

I took mine online through Colorado State. The lectures are recorded from the professor's on-site class. It was quite a bit of work and I think it was on the pricier side. The exams were administered through Proctor U (someone watches you on webcam/accesses your computer to make sure you aren't cheating). I definitely learned a lot in the class but it was no cake walk.

I took mine online through University of Minnesota. It was also quite a bit of work and on the pricier side and it also had taped lectures. However, for their exams I had to have it sent to an approved proctoring center, but that wasn't too difficult to do. All around I liked it. 🙂

The lecturer was pretty entertaining (Roon!) - I think I got more out of that online class than any other online course I've taken, and even more than some in class courses.

👍 He was entertaining! I loved his little jokes at the end of every lecture. And I definitely agree that I got a lot out of the course. 🙂

I'm at CC for next term too. I'm going to be jamming in 20 credits. My last ever English Comp class, Ethics, Intro Latin, and Precalc. Woop. 😀
