I currently work for a hospital, with below average salary for the state. I work every 3rd weekend with rotating on calls and rotating holidays. My current salary is below national average.

This new position will no longer require weekend shifts or holidays. It is in a city with high cost of living. The offer is lower than my current salary (by 3,000/year). I am currently not certified in that state. I am wondering if I should negotiate. If the negotiation fails, should I still accept the offer?

Something to consider,
What is the future growth of the position, are you interested in management track. Employee satisfaction could also make a huge difference. Other factors like PTO and benefit may play a role. Even marital status could have impacts on your decision. Think long term.
I missed out some opportunities because I make max and would not take pay cut, but only because I am pretty where I am. Expand your horizon in terms of decades when you make this decision. Good luck.

I think it would really depend on the city/state/employer. I took a 10k paycut to take my current position, but it was worth it.
This big city has higher standard of living. I was told by my previous instructor the same- she took the pay cut, but is happier now.

I hope you made the right decision. Deep inside I really want to accept it. It will be a job with less stress for me.

You’re not giving us sufficient information to give you an opinion that’s worth damn.
Do you like your current job?

Do you want to move to a different city?
are you able to take a pay cut?
Other than not working weekends, do you have any other motivations for taking the job?

The reason I am looking for another job is because the current position does not feel fulfilling. Not the pay, but the city, the hospital itself, and the work ethics in this area. I would love to move to a bigger city (where the offer is). The pay cut will probably prevent me from buying more cloth 🤢

Other than not working weekends or holidays, I will have a stable work schedule. I currently work from 1pm-9pm one day, and 6am-2pm the day after, making me unable to sleep/eat regulary. I've lost 10 pounds since I started this job, great for fitting into cute cloth though .

Some cities are well known to have lower pay for pharmacists though. 3k paycut is nothing though for a higher quality of life, just make sure you know what you're getting into.

Always negotiate. It sounds like you want to accept the offer so what is holding you back? 3k is nothing.

I negotiated another 5K for my current job. My husband negotiated 7K. Counter their offer.

Also 91K? That is insane.

Trying to negotiate salary for non-managerial positions is pretty pointless in my experience. HR will have a formula that spits out a pay rate based on relevant experience and certifications. If they give you more money, then they’d have to give everyone more money to maintain pay equity.

You might try negotiating other things like PTO or asking for help with moving costs.

Normally I’d recommend negotiating (which has worked for me), but this offer is so low there’s no point. Don’t forget you are losing money every year you don’t get a raise, due to inflation. A pay cut? Even worse.
